Krawlergrips FAQ & 4WD Grab Handle Guide

Everything you need to know before upgrading your rig

Choosing the right grab handles for your 4WD comes down to fitment, sizing, materials, and how you plan to use them.

We’ve put together answers to the questions we hear most often to help you choose the right Krawlergrips setup for your vehicle.

Do paracord grab handles fit my 4WD?

Krawlergrips can suit a wide range of 4WD vehicles, canopies, drawer systems, campers, and custom builds.

Because every vehicle can have different mounting points and spacing, we recommend measuring before ordering to make sure you select the correct size.

Krawlergrips are commonly used on:

  • Toyota Hilux
  • Toyota LandCruiser
  • Ford Ranger
  • Nissan Patrol
  • Isuzu D-Max
  • Mitsubishi Triton
  • Suzuki Jimny
  • Jeep Wrangler
  • Custom touring and camping setups

If you are unsure, send us your measurements or photos of your setup and we can help you find the right fit.

How do I measure grab handle mounting points?

Getting the correct measurement is simple.

Measure:

Centre of mounting hole → Centre of mounting hole

Once you have this measurement, add approximately:

3–5cm

This allows enough room for your hand to comfortably fit behind the handle.

Remember:

  • Measure the actual mounting points, not the old handle length.
  • Different vehicles may require different sizes.
  • If your setup is unusual, contact us before ordering.

What size Krawlergrips do I need?

Krawlergrips are available in multiple sizes to suit different applications.

18cm

Best suited for:

  • Drawer systems
  • Compact areas
  • Smaller mounting spaces

21cm

Best suited for:

  • Tighter spaces
  • Smaller setups
  • Areas where a shorter handle is preferred

24cm

Our most popular size.

A great all-round option for many 4WD applications, canopies, and interior setups.

Are paracord grab handles strong?

Krawlergrips are made using Type III Commercial Grade 550 Nylon Paracord.

550 Paracord is known for:

  • Strong nylon construction
  • Durability
  • Flexibility
  • Outdoor resistance
  • Comfortable feel

The "550" rating refers to the cord material’s breaking strength under testing conditions. The performance of a finished grab handle also depends on the complete construction, mounting points, hardware, and installation.

Krawlergrips are designed as interior grab handles and accessories for your vehicle.

They are not designed to be used as recovery points, lifting equipment, or safety restraints.

Why use paracord for grab handles?

Paracord is a popular material among outdoor enthusiasts because it combines durability with comfort.

For Krawlergrips, it provides:

✔ A comfortable hand feel
✔ A custom appearance
✔ A wide range of colour options
✔ Lightweight construction
✔ Resistance to everyday outdoor conditions

It allows us to create a product that is practical while giving your vehicle a personalised look.

Are Krawlergrips made in Australia?

Yes.

Krawlergrips are handmade in Redlands, Queensland, Australia.

The business started from a passion for 4WDing and a desire to create a better grab handle option for fellow enthusiasts.

Every handle is individually made with attention to detail before being sent to its new home.

Can I install Krawlergrips myself?

In many cases, yes.

If your vehicle already uses screw-mounted grab handles, installation is usually straightforward.

Some vehicles use different mounting methods, such as plastic clips. These may require alternative mounting solutions depending on the setup.
